Ice Skating Rinks

During winter time, the region of Basel offers ample infrastructure for ice skaters of all ages with the ice skating rink Margarethen and the indoor skating rink St. Jakob-Arena. Furthermore, the public pool Eglisee also gets transformed into a skating rink during winter.

The skating rink Margarethen offers an ice surface of 6000m2 and skates can be rented on site. There is a privately reserved area available to parents with young children from Monday to Friday. Private lessons with a coach are available from Monday to Friday during the day and the Ice Hockey School offers coaching on Wednesdays and Fridays for an hour each. Free hockey play is possible on several weekdays and reservations can be made for fun hockey games at the rink.
Since 2002, the St. Jakob-Arena offers an indoor multifunctional ice rink which can be used all year round and seats more than 6000 persons. Regional, national and international events are taking place there. The arena caters primarily to ice sports such as ice hockey, figure skating, ice dance, synchronized skating, short track and free ice skating. The rink is also accessible to the public, for coaching and for spending leisure time.
Furthermore, the public pool Eglisee gets transformed into a skating rink during winter.
