First recorded in 1348, a tavern for the social élite. The Conclave of the Council of Basel met here in 1439. Rebuilt in 1545 as the city's textile and corn house. Baroque alterations in 1769, additional storey added 1862. The Amerbach Cabinet, the heart of the current collection of the Kunstmuseum Basel (Museum of Fine Arts), was kept here 1671-1849.
