Previous building probably dating from the 9th century. In the 13th century, parish church and canonical foundation (1233). Following the earthquake of 1356, reconstruction of the commoners' church and alteration of the choir (vaulted around 1480).
The interior features a rich cycle of murals, particularly exquisite is the Interment of Christ dating from approx. 1380 in the south aisle and the Annunciation dating from approx. 1400 in the southern chapel (Keppenbachkapelle).
Protestant church since 1529.
