Original construction dating from the third quarter of the 11th century, with intact crypt. Rebuilt following the earthquake of 1356. Commoners' church reconstructed 1481-96 by Minster architect Hans von Nussdorf to designs drawn up by Hans Niesenberger. The interior contains the grave of the knight Hüglin von Schöneck (1377) and murals dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Choir screen dating from 1455/60. Wooden choir vault 1518 installed by Martin Lebzelter. West gallery 1837 by Amadeus Merian (1808-89).
Most important late-gothic hall church in the Upper Rhine region.
