The pale stone in the cobbled street before the Weisse Haus (White House) gave rise to an imaginative Basel legend. It is said that in November 1797 the Guild Director Ochs took a stroll along the Rheinsprung with Napoleon during the latter's visit to Basel, as far as this particular pale cobble stone.
