Tinguely Fountain (Tinguelybrunnen)

In 1977 Jean Tinguely installed a number of playful mechanical sculptures in a large water basin at the former site of the stage of the old City Theatre (Stadttheater). These now provide action in place of the actors, singers and dancers. With this fountain the artist, who was extremely popular in Basel, created a new symbol for the city.
