In the historical suburb of Spalenvorstadt stands a grand, polychrome, Renaissance fountain. This is known as the Holbein Fountain (Holbeinbrunnen), after the dancing peasants depicted on the fountain column, which are based on a drawing by Holbein. At the top stands a bagpipe player, after a drawing by Dürer.
