The dolls house museum in Basel opened its unique exhibition on approximately 1000 m2 in 1998. Next to dolls, toy shops, doll's houses and miniatures over 2000 bears are presented in the museum. The oldest dating back to the year 1904.
The exhibition concept is unique. Exhibits are not grouped according to categories, but appear in imaginatively arranged individual scenes. There are precious dolls and teddy bears playing together in a toyshop for example, or a group of teddies are competing in a car race. Full of playful detail, the scenes stimulate the imagination of young and old alike. The large custom-made glass cases permit the successful realisation of the exhibition concept. There is a fascinating history behind every single exhibit from the beginning of the 19th century until today.
Furthermore, a modern interactive information system is installed on each floor. Here one can learn more about the interesting background of many of the exhibits, about their manufacturers or about how a teddy bear is made.
The museums café is a culinary delight. The museum shop offers an excellent selection of contemporary miniatures and teddy bears.
